Tournament Safety Guidelines

For 37 years, the Bethesda Premier Cup has provided one of the top youth soccer competitions in the country. Although this year's tournament will be a little different we are committed to providing a safe environment for all players, families, coaches, and officials.

In close consultation with state and local health authorities our Tournament will be operating under the following Safety Guidelines (Please Note:  These guidelines will be updated as necessary. Teams will receive communication on updated safety policies via their gotSoccer accounts and through our Constant Contact newsletter service).

Tournament Protocols

  • Each team must provide a COVID manager (not a coach) who will be present at all games of the tournament.    The COVID manager will have the responsibility to make sure that all requirements/restrictions are being met by their team.   The COVID manager will be required to attend a Zoom call with the Tournament Director at least one week prior to the tournament.

  • Teams and their spectators will be on the same side of the field.

  • The Premier Cup will provide additional trainers (with proper PPE) to each tournament site.

  • Bathrooms and high touch areas will be cleaned every hour; hand sanitizer stations will be used throughout the sites.

  • All benches will be removed during the tournament.

  • There will be a separate 6-foot area designated for each player on the sideline.

  • Spectators will be limited to one per family.

  • Health check/waiver for each individual participating in the tournament

  • Masks – players, coaches, and spectators must wear a mask when traveling to and from the field.  On the sidelines, all coaches and players must wear a mask at all times.

  • We will enforce social distancing rules, when possible.

  • There will be signage throughout each site concerning COVID protocols.

  • The home team will supply the game balls.  The game balls must be wiped down before the match, at halftime, and at the end of each match.

  • The starting game times will be staggered; teams/age groups will be kept in pods.

  • Game time lengths will be reduced in order for each team to clear the area for the next group entering the field of play.

  • The Premier Cup will abide by the list of states that have mandated quarantine by Maryland – those teams from those states will not be accepted to play in the tournament.

  • Bethesda will provide pre-event communications regarding expectations and protocols to all teams.

  • All event staff will receive pre-event training on protocols and guidelines.

  • Teams must leave bench area immediately at the conclusion of the match; teams for the next match cannot come to the field area until the bench area is completely cleared.

  • Sharing of water bottles, drinks, food, or personal items is prohibited.

  • Hand contact of any kind is not permitted.

Out-of-State Teams

Currently Maryland does not have any restrictions on out-of-state teams attending the tournament. We are aware through communication from some teams that have applied that there are states that either have travel restrictions or quarantine requirements for teams traveling to Maryland.  While we know that these restrictions/quarantine guidelines are fluid (normally changing every two weeks) we need time to prepare, especially with regards to schedules, so we are asking any out-of-state team to let us know if they cannot travel by the following dates:

Girls Tournament                                       by Thursday, October 15th

Boys Tournament                                       by Thursday, October 22nd

We will not process any payments (with the exception of teams coming from Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia – those payments will be processed once teams have been accepted) until the dates listed above.  You must let us know, in writing, if by these dates your team in not allowed to travel and we will unfortunately have to remove your team from the tournament at that time.  We certainly will work directly with any team(s) in this situation, knowing that that your state’s restrictions could change after this date on a case-by-case basis.
